THE MESSAGE
Sermons, messages, and reflections from our notes.
Passages and reflections on Luke 22:41.
1. Kneeling as the Proper Posture in Prayer
• “Both in public and private worship, it is our duty to bow down upon our knees before God when we offer our petitions to Him.”
— Selected Messages, Book 2, p. 311
• *“Where have our brethren obtained the idea that they should stand upon their feet praying to God? One who has been educated to do this opened the meeting, and after standing upon his feet praying to God, he knelt down before God in confession. Then after the meeting closed, he stated that he could not see the necessity of kneeling when we pray. But this is not correct; it is an irreverent practice.”*
— Selected Messages, Book 2, p. 311
2. Biblical Example of Kneeling
• “Both in the Old and the New Testament are abundant examples to show that it is the proper attitude to bow upon the knees when praying to God.”
— Selected Messages, Book 2, p. 311
3. Exceptions Allowed
• “Circumstances may sometimes make it necessary for you to pray while walking, standing, or while at your work, God’s ear is open to hear the sincere prayer sent up from the heart.”
— Messages to Young People, p. 249
• *“We must pray constantly, with a humble mind and a meek spirit. We can pray while walking the street, while engaged in labor, our hearts constantly ascending in silent petition for help, for light, for strength, for knowledge.”*
— Steps to Christ, p. 99
