VI. What Is a Christlike Life?

A Christlike life is one where the character, motives, and actions of a person reflect those of Jesus. It’s not about perfection, but surrender—a daily walk in humility, love, and obedience to God.

Key Traits of a Christlike Life:
1. Love and Compassion
• Jesus loved unconditionally, even His enemies.
• John 15:12 – “This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”
2. Humility
• Christ humbled Himself, becoming a servant (Philippians 2:7–8).
• Matthew 11:29 – “I am gentle and lowly in heart.”
3. Forgiveness
• Even on the cross, He forgave His persecutors.
• Luke 23:34 – “Father, forgive them…”
4. Obedience to God
• Jesus said, “I do always those things that please Him” (John 8:29).
• A Christlike life seeks God’s will above all.
5. Patience and Endurance
• He was patient with sinners and endured suffering.
• Hebrews 12:2–3 – “…who for the joy set before Him endured the cross…”
6. Truthfulness and Integrity
• Christ never compromised truth, but spoke it in love.
• 1 Peter 2:22 – “Who committed no sin, nor was deceit found in His mouth.”

3. Daniel

4. John the Baptist
• Lived a humble, selfless life pointing others to Jesus: “He must increase, but I must decrease” (John 3:30).
5. Paul

Ellen G. White on the Christlike Life

“To be a Christian means to be Christlike. Not a Christian in name only, but one who daily reveals the character of Christ in every act.”
— That I May Know Him, p. 126

“True character is not shaped from without, and put on; it radiates from within. If we wish to direct others in the path of righteousness, the principles of righteousness must be enshrined in our own hearts.”
— The Ministry of Healing, p. 469
