THE MESSAGE
Sermons, messages, and reflections from our notes.
Passages and reflections on Psalm 47:2, Exodus 20:3, Luke 9:23.
Our God isn’t like any other whether it be known or unknown God is above all. He’s not to be treated casually but reverently and supremely.
Psalm 47:2 For the Lord Most High is awesome;
He is a great King over all the earth.
Malachi 1:6
“A son honors his father,
And a servant his master.
If then I am the Father,
Where is My honor?
And if I am a Master,
Where is My reverence?
Says the Lord of hosts
Deuteronomy 10:17
For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality nor takes a bribe.
“There is too much familiarity shown toward God. Those who truly realize His presence will bow in humility before Him.”
*Testimonies for the Church, vol. 5, p. 500. *
(He is not ordinary he is The Most High)
*We are to seek his kingdom first (not when convenient) Mathew 6:33 “*But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
Humility and reverence should characterize the deportment of all who come into the presence of God. In the name of Jesus we may come before Him with confidence, but we must not approach Him with the boldness of presumption, as though He were on a level with ourselves.
There are those who address the great and all-powerful and holy God, who dwell in light unapproachable, as they would address an equal, or even an inferior.
There are those who conduct themselves in His house as they would not presume to do in the audience chamber of an earthly ruler.
These should remember that they are in His sight whom seraphim adore, before whom angels veil their faces. God is greatly to be reverenced; all who truly realize His presence will bow in humility before Him, and, like Jacob beholding the vision of God, they will cry out, “How dreadful is this place! This is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.”
Patriarchs and Prophets, 252.1
Not have any other gods and deny self because God does not accept second place. He does not fit into spare time.
(ref: Exodus 20:3 & Luke 9:23)
To seek Him first means rearranging life around His will. (Your schedule changes for him not his)
“God will not accept a divided heart.” — Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 460.
God defines how He is approached.
Casual Worship (Nadab & Abihu) Leviticus 10:1-3
Then Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it, put incense on it, and offered profane fire before the Lord, which He had not commanded them. **2 **So fire went out from the Lord and devoured them, and they died before the Lord. **3 **And Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the Lord spoke, saying:
‘By those who come near Me
I must be regarded as holy;
And before all the people
I must be glorified.’ ”
So Aaron held his peace.
(They tried doing their own way carelessly)
*Pride *
King Uzziah Pride Against Authority 2chronicles 26:16 - 18
The Penalty for Uzziah’s Pride
But when he was strong his heart was lifted up, to his destruction, for he transgressed against the Lord his God by entering the temple of the Lord to burn incense on the altar of incense. ** **So Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him were eighty priests of the Lord valiant men. And they withstood King Uzziah, and said to him, “It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the Lord, but for the priests, the sons of Aaron, who are consecrated to burn incense. Get out of the sanctuary, for you have trespassed! You shall have no honor from the Lord God.”
*Godly fear and reverence is how we are required to serve HIM. Hebrews 12:28-29 *
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. ** **For our God is a consuming fire.
Ecclesiastes 12:13. Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter:
Fear God and keep His commandments,
for this is the duty of all mankind.
Reverence is not legalism but rightful recognition of divine authority.
“It is not safe for us to be indifferent and careless in our attitude toward God.” Testimonies for the Church, vol. 5, p. 499.
“The sin of the world today is the disregard of God's law.” Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 305.
Your lifestyle either confirms that God reigns or suggests He is optional.
Titus 2: 1 But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine: **2 **that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience; **3 **the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things— **4 **that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, **5 **to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.
**6 **Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded, **7 in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility, **sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you.
**9 **Exhort bondservants to be obedient to their own masters, to be well pleasing in all things, not answering back, **10 **not pilfering, but showing all good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.
Trained by Saving Grace
**11 **For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, **12 **teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, **13 **looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, **14 **who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.
**15 **Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.
*2peter 2:1 *Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, **2 **as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, **3 **if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
The Chosen Stone and His Chosen People
**4 **Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, **5 **you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. **6 **Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture,
“Behold, I lay in Zion
A chief cornerstone, elect, precious,
And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.”
**7 **Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient,
“The stone which the builders rejected
Has become the chief cornerstone,”
**8 **and
“A stone of stumbling
And a rock of offense.”
They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed.
**9 **But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; **10 **who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.
Once again: “The strongest argument in favor of the gospel is a loving and lovable Christian.” The Ministry of Healing, p. 470.
**Philippians 2:9–11: Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, **and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Psalms 107:19-21Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
And He saved them out of their distresses.
He sent His word and healed them,
And delivered them from their destructions.
Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness,
And for His wonderful works to the children of men!
God is not ordinary He is the Most High, mighty and supreme over all (Psalm 47:2; Deut. 10:17). Because of who He is, He must be honored, feared, and placed first in our lives not treated casually or given second place (Matt. 6:33; Ex. 20:3). Scripture shows that careless worship and pride, like that of Nadab and Abihu or King Uzziah, bring serious consequences because God defines how He is to be approached. True reverence is not legalism but recognizing His divine authority and serving Him with godly fear (Heb. 12:28–29). Our lifestyle should prove that God reigns in our hearts.
