Keeping our thoughts fixed on Christ

Gratitude, peace, and the direction of our thoughts.

Keeping our thoughts fixed on positivity (Christ)

  • Philippians 4:8 : “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report… meditate on these things.”
  • Hebrews 12:2 : “looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith…”
  • Isaiah 26:3 : “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.”
  • Colossians 3:2 : “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”

Where we fix our eyes determines the direction of our hearts. Keep your eyes fixed on Christ, and hope will follow

“Nothing tends more to promote health of body and of soul than does a spirit of gratitude and praise. It is a positive duty to resist melancholy, discontented thoughts and feelings—as much a duty as it is to pray.”
The Ministry of Healing, p. 251, par. 5.

“We are not to be engrossed with self, and, anxious with fear as to whether we shall be saved. All this turns the soul away from the Source of strength. Commit the keeping of your soul to God, and trust in Him. Talk and think of Jesus. Let self be lost in Him.”
Steps to Christ, p. 71, par. 1.

“The more you talk of Jesus, the more of His matchless charms you will behold.” Steps to Christ, p. 89, par. 3.

“Keep your wants, your joys, your sorrows, your cares, and your fears before God. You cannot burden Him; you cannot weary Him. He who numbers the hairs of your head is not indifferent to the wants of His children. ‘The Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.’ His heart of love is touched by our sorrows and even by our utterance of them.” Steps to Christ, p. 100, par. 1.

“It is looking unto Jesus that we are enabled to become like Him, to catch His Spirit, to imitate His example, and to walk even as He walked.”

We choose to be thankful instead of always complaining The more we think about Jesus and spend time with Him the more we become like Him.

“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2) is the key to the Christian life. God calls us to “meditate on these things” that are true and good (Philippians 4:8) because our thoughts shape our lives. As Ellen White wrote “Talk and think of Jesus Let self be lost in Him” (Steps to Christ, p. 71, par. 1) and “Nothing tends more to promote health of body and of soul than does a spirit of gratitude and praise” (The Ministry of Healing, p. 251, par. 5). When we keep our minds on Christ God promises “You will keep him in perfect peace Whose mind is stayed on You Because he trusts in You” (Isaiah 26:3). Shallll we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus every day until faith becomes sight and we are with Him forever.
