John and Judas — a summary

Scripture references, spiritual reflections, and practical application.

Summary

John and Judas, though both disciples of Jesus, represent two vastly different spiritual paths. John was transformed by love—his closeness to Christ deepened his humility, and he became known as the “beloved disciple,” full of grace and truth. He was teachable and allowed Jesus to change his character. In contrast, Judas, though close in proximity to Jesus, harbored selfish ambition and greed. He followed Christ for personal gain and never surrendered his heart fully. While John’s legacy is one of love, truth, and eternal hope, Judas is remembered for betrayal and spiritual ruin. Their stories teach us that being near Jesus is not enough; true discipleship requires a surrendered heart, genuine love, and willingness to be changed by Him.
