The Consequences of Our Decisions

Passages and reflections on Galatians 6:7–8, Genesis 3:1–19, Genesis 13:10–13.

The Consequences of Our Decisions

1. Intro

Every choice we make carries a consequence. either for blessing or for loss. God has given us the gift of free will, but not freedom from the results of our decisions. The Bible consistently shows that obedience brings life, peace, and joy, while disobedience brings sorrow, destruction, and separation from God.

Galatians 6:7–8 – “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.”

**2. Examples of Decisions and Their Consequences in the Bible **

Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:1–19)
• Decision: Disobeyed God by eating the forbidden fruit.
• Consequence: Loss of Eden, suffering, death entering the world.
• Lesson: Even small acts of disobedience bring great consequences.

Lot’s Choice (Genesis 13:10–13; 19:15–26)
• Decision: Chose to live near wicked Sodom because it looked prosperous.
• Consequence: Loss of his home, his wife turned into a pillar of salt, and his family corrupted.
• Lesson: Choosing based on worldly gain instead of God’s counsel leads to spiritual ruin.

Moses Striking the Rock (Numbers 20:7–12)
• Decision: Struck the rock in anger instead of speaking as God commanded.

• Lesson: Sin forgiven still leaves painful results.

→ Our decisions about what we behold and choose shape our character and destiny.
• “Every act of life, however small, has its bearing for good or for evil. Faithfulness or neglect in even the smallest duties may open the door for life’s richest blessings or its greatest calamities.” — Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 356
•** “God has given us the power of choice; it is ours to exercise. We cannot change our hearts… but we can choose to serve God. We can give Him our will; then He will work in us to will and to do according to His good pleasure.” — Steps to Christ, p. 47**

4. Spiritual Lessons
1. Our choices sow seeds—we reap what we plant (Galatians 6:7–8).
2. God respects our free will but will not remove the harvest of our decisions.
3. Small decisions shape destiny—whether in obedience like Daniel or disobedience like Lot.
4. Even forgiven sin leaves consequences—David was forgiven, but still reaped pain.
5. Choosing God always leads to life—obedience brings blessings, peace, and eternal reward.
