1 Corinthians Questions & Summary

Summary: Paul starts off by summarising his role: he’s an apostle and they are the proof of that, he then explains that apostles have a right to see the fruits of their labour. The same way the priest and workers of the temple were looked after by the people, so should it be with the apostles, so they can focus fully on the work of the gospel - living from the gospel (so ministers are to be supported by the church). He chooses to do the work of the gospel without using his right(having them support him) so it doesn’t hinder or negatively affect the work of the gospel. He then talks about serving God, how it takes the humbling of self, getting out of our comfort zones, using every means to win souls to Christ. He then highlights the importance of disciplining ourselves and striving for the imperishable crown- if athletes put in sweat and blood for just a gold prize, how much more us for the kingdom of God. We’re to discipline our ourselves sekin every way to get this, lest we preach to others and ourselves be found wanting. “He was careful so to labor that none could say he preached the gospel for gain.” ( Acts of the Apostles, ch. 34)
