Chapter 2 ✅ Verse: “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,” I Timothy 2:5 NKJV 1-2 We ought to be praying for others with supplications (bringing up the needs of others- humbly before God), prayers, intercessions (praying for others) thanksgiving (acknowledging God’s doings and giving gratitude). And also praying for those in authority (praying for our leaders to lead according to God’s will) that we may lead a quiet, peaceful life… to rule in away that doesn’t interfere with our relationship with God - give what belongs to Caesar to Caesar, and God’s God- so their leading doesn’t disrupt this- Matthew 22:21. 3-4 we do this because God cares for everyone and wants us all saved, even the wicked, he takes no pleasure in their death- John 3:16. Ezekiel 33:11, 2 Peter 3:9. But He doesn’t force- according to John 5:40, Matthew 23:37. And God wants everyone to come to the knowledge of truth (the truth: Jesus, who can then mediate for them before the Father- John 14:6. 5-7 - John 14 6 Jesus is saying how He is the one and only mediator between God and men, through Him only, we’re reconciled with the Father. - hebrews 7:25 He wants us all saved and the only way, is to accept Him, and He will mediate for us, and intercede for us before the Father- but it’s a choice, He doesn’t force. Romans 8:26-27- God the Holy Spirit intercedes for us in our prayers when we don’t know what to say. Jesus gave His life up for us-John 10:18, to be witnessed at the right time (those seeing and it being witnessed to others) so they can believe cz it says - (Romans 10:14). Paul was appointed for this reason- to witness and teach of this truth- his main audience being the gentilles. 8 This is instructions for men (as leaders in church), thyre all to be praying (men everywhere/men leading in every church) with holy hands (clean/holy hands= pure, hands:actions - Psalms 24:3-4 and David not being allowed to build temple cz he shed too many blood, and revelation seal of God in their hands and forehead- symbolising thoughts/mind and hands being actions), without wrath and doubting (don’t be up pretending everything is all good and putting on a face when it isn’t/ don’t be hypocritical- if sum isn’t ok right like if angry with someone- go sort it out first then return- Matthew 5:23). Without wrath and doubting (doubting: is like a lack of trust in God’s ability, God can do all things- so we must have faith when praying- without faith, it is impossible to please God) without wrath: James 1:6). 9. So Paul has just given instructions for men’s conduct in the church and now he gives instruction for the women- saying not to show up in showy/flashy stuff- to get attention/praise- spirit of Lucifer - me me me, look at me and not God. - these 2 previous verse also apply to both genders but its addressing the genders accordingly- cz men will tend to lead and women will tend to want to dress up. “Our dress is an index of the mind and heart.” Message to young people 351 10: is saying so instead of doing all that flashy stuff, do this instead-good works which speaks louder- shows your faith/profession of your faith. 11-12 first part of this is Paul going against the (women should not be educated- like they couldn’t go to torah classes and that, and women being limited to discipleship compared to men, even with education), christianity is saying no to this and saying let women learn and also in Luke 8:2-3- women as close disciples of Jesus too. So this is telling women how they should conduct (do their part in order to maintain order in the church- 1 corinthians 14:34-35), Paul is saying men and women have their specific roles (not rank wise) just as the God head does- men’s roles are to lead, have the leading roles, so women should respect this and submit to this order to have order and structure and not chaos in the church. Silence (quiet- previous chapters talked about leading quiet lives- don’t be chaotic- 1 thes 4:11-12).- submission isn’t equal to inferiority cz Jesus submitted to the Father while He still remained fully divine and equal in worth. 13-15 This intended order was established back then with our first parents (Adam & Eve), Eve being deceived is an example of the danger of leaving God’s order and acting independently/self, excluding Him- warning us to follow the order He has established- cz He’s all-knowing and knows best. - Nevertheless, even though she made this mistake and fell, she’s covered, she will be saved (we will be saved-through the son- the Seed of woman gen 3:15) if the individuals (who fell) if they continue in faith (faith in Him) love, holiness and self control (transformation of the Holy Spirit-transforming into the character of God- us now having the fruits of the Spirit). Application: - Pray for all - Follow/understand the order of prayer - Pray for those in (authority) so that nothing interferes with our walk w God - Have the same love n care for all like God does pointing to salvation - Acknowledge Jesus as the source of salvation (meditator that reconciles us with the Father) abstain from any contrary doctrines - Strive to be pure in heart and blameless before God (to have holy hands) - Live by what you teach - Do all in accordance of God’s order
