2 Corinthians Questions, Summary & Application
Summary:
1-2 starts off with Paul stating his different approaches towards em, when away, its boldness/stern/no filter but with them physically, he’s more gentle. Verse then is him pleading with them to act on the lette/msg so that when he comes he doesn’t have to come with that stern approach, which he will have to with some who think thyre acting carnally (self exaltation). 3-6 he then says no even though we have freshly bodies, we don’t approach things like humans do, we do it led by the spirit (spirit-led) we don’t act with human motives. Capturing/addressing, every thought/thing that’s against what the word of God says, attacking it with the word of God. Punishing disobedience with obedience. - Satan being punished/disturbed/tortured by our life of obedience to God.
7: he’s asking if they look at things based on how they appear outwardly, if you consider yourself to be Christ’s then consider others also as Christ’s (same level/none above the other or below). 8 even if I was to boast, it’s in Christ, it’s to glorify God and edify the church (cz for example he may say God did this and that through us- which encourages the the church- like he said he doesn’t take payment, and also Titus’s generosity- that’s not to exalt self but glorify God). It’s for your edification not destruction. 9: I don’t wanna terrify you with the letters, like some say that the letters are intimidating but when I come, I come off weak, let the person who thinks like that consider this, that I’m not putting on an act, that’s how I am- bold but humble. 12 we aren’t gonna compare ourselves among ourselves, those who do this are not wise- cz if we compare ourselves with others (who are weak) we then start being prideful n exalting self - so this isn’t wise. 13-16 is saying we aren’t looking at others but ourselves, and those under our authority. “We will not boast about things done outside our area of authority. We will boast only about what has happened within the boundaries of the work God has given us, which includes our working with you. We are not reaching beyond these boundaries when we claim authority over you, as if we had never visited you. For we were the first to travel all the way to Corinth with the Good News of Christ. Nor do we boast and claim credit for the work someone else has done. Instead, we hope that your faith will grow so that the boundaries of our work among you will be extended. Then we will be able to go and preach the Good News in other places far beyond you, where no one else is working. Then there will be no question of our boasting about work done in someone else’s territory.”
2 Corinthians 10:13-16 NLT
Basically it’s not to be better than others but faithful with wherever God has appointed me, and wanting that to expand for His glory.
17-18 Let him who boasts do so in the Lord (for His glory). Cz it’s not the person who exalts/praises self is approved but the one who the Lord praises- see 1 cor 4:5, each ones praise will come from God.
Applicable how?:
Humility- spiritual warfare is what this chapter teaches me on. Firstly I’m made to understand that the war I fight isn’t against anyone but things (not person but the spirit in them). And my weapons aren’t carnal (so not acting on human motives) in whatever situations I’m in (to fight)
It’s to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. So fighting with TRUTH.
Tells me not to judge according to outward appearance so not under(over)estimating people based on how they appear outwardly.
also not comparing myself with others, but focus on my purpose from God.
(In boasting boast of the Lord- Uwirata yiratane Yesu.
Nothing is for self exaltation but in all ALWAYS FOR HIS GLORY.
that I’m lifted down so that he’s lifted Up just like Christ lifted (humbled) himself that I should be lifted Up. 🥰
