2 Corinthians Questions, Summary & Application

Summary: Vs 1: links from the previous chapter, which was talking about coming out from (being unequally yoked), now telling us to remove filth- any and everything that corrupts our body, mind spirit- the whole us. Remove all. Perfecting holiness in the fear of God (so growing holiness). Vs 2-4 he starts off by telling them to open up their hearts to him. And understand that it’s all coming from a place of love/good intentions/deep care for them (cz of the letters of constructive criticism he wrote). 5-7 Paul when restless about the church of Corinth, was comforted when Titus came back to him in Macedonia with good news, commending them and how well they received the letter. 8-9 Even if he had offended them by the letter, he didn’t regret it because their sorrow, sadness, seeing what he was saying to be true, led to repentance. So godly sorrow is good 😊 like he regrets making them sorrowful but then again he doesn’t because it produced good results. 10–11 compares 2 different types of sorrows, godly and worldly, godly: producing repentance leading to salvation and worldly: producing death. Godly, is when you see what u did is wrong and genuinely feel bad about it, and given the opportunity wouldn’t repeat it, but worldly: only feeling sorrowful bcz of the consequences, or bad cz ur caught, not sorry about what u did- leading to death cz if another opportunity comes that doesn’t involve being caught or consequences, you’d do it. - good example of this is Peter & Judas of repentance. Godly sorrow shows- change is seen, it’s evident. Vs 12 explains why he wrote to them- not bcz of the incident, but for the bigger purpose, that he cares, and for the sake of their growth as a whole. 13-16 Paul is rejoicing, he’s been comforted by the news he heard back from Titus, and how he came back with his personal feedback- that they responded well to his correction, this brought joy to him, that his boasting to Titus was found to be true. And now he’s happy to know he can trust them fully now.
