1 Corinthians Questions & Summary

Q, S & A - vs 31? The best gifts are the gifts of the Holy Spirit- love joy peace etc, with love being the greatest cz the others follow after it. Which Paul then follows through to explain in the next chapter. God showed us this great gift (John 3:16). So verse 31 Paul encourages us to earnestly- with our whole heart to fully desire the best gifts (Galatians 5:22-23) and yet I show u a more excellent way- pointing to the next chapter speaking about love being the greatest. - Vs 23-24? In our bodies we see some parts with less value and put less effort into it, like our hair we put a lot of effort (man) & man - their muscles idk 😂 but God wants us to not overlook any, take care of all and value em equally- both our physical body and the members of Christ. “There are parts of our body that we do not think are very special. But we dress them carefully! We take special care of those parts that we do not want people to see. But we do not need to do this with the beautiful parts of our body. God has put all these parts together in one body. Some parts seem to be not very special. But God has shown that those parts are very valuable.” - So since the body is the analogy used, a person can live without an arm or leg or eye (although would struggle) but not the brain- head. So then are some spiritual gifts superior than others like apostles- pastors, those who have the gift of healing n miracles- are they greater? Are the teachers more needed than the helpers? No, the analogy given isn’t to support the idea of superiority but working together just bcz a heart in one’s body has “more” “greater” work to do to the body compared to like sum like a finger, then should the importance of the finger be overlooked by the vitality of the heart? No because there are things that the heart wouldn’t be able to do that would require the finger like grabbing something -(to eat to read - anything) in that the finger is seen of more importance than the heart. So we’re not looking at comparing abilities but acknowledging both as necessary parts to make a ‘complete’ body.
