2 Corinthians Questions, Summary & Application

Summary: Starts off with saying in order for sum to be established 2 or 3 witnesses are need. 2-4 he’s warning em that when he comes to em the 3rd time, there will be no filter (no sparing), and he says that his approach won’t be gentle towards those still living in sin, same way Christ isn’t weak, they won’t be dealing with them with a weak approach- but stern. 5-6 Paul tells them to examine (lamentations 3:40) themselves and see whether they have genuine faith, whether walking right- knowing ghat Christ is in them, if in them= qualified, if not= disqualified and saying he hopes they can see that his ministry is genuine. 7-10 Paul and the ministry want em to do what is right, not for their own benefit/ or ministry to look good, but bcz it’s right, even if it makes the ministry look weak/disqualified. He’d rather them change so that when he comes he’s gentle with them (which will make him look weak- like they were saying his letters are intimidating but in real life he’s weak) he’d rather they change and he comes with gentle spirit, coming across weak, than him coming with them still in sin, and having to be firm with them. Soccer for example- a coach is supposed to be up pumped up, telling players what to do, and being firm, but if he’s done his job right, he can sit on the sidelines and watch his team do well (which may come across like he’s weak, not doing anything as a coach). He’s okay with looking weak if his team is doing well. Vs 9- he’s happy with em being spiritually strong (even though it makes him look weak). He wrote what he wrote so they work on themselves so he doesn’t have to come across sharp- using the authority that God has given him, for edification not for destruction. Their actions determine what energy/approach he comes with. 11-14 Paul then ends the letter with telling them to lock in- be complete-whole,flawless-mature spiritually (James 1:4 ) good comfort- encourage each other, one mind- no division, peace. Saying God will be with em, and blesses em and sends greetings from the others with him. He ends the letter kinda like in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit- blessing em with His presence. Experiencing the grace of God (Lord Jesus) and God’s love (the Father) and communion with the Holy Spirit. Throughout the chapters he’s been pointing out their sins, and now ends the letter with by Jesus’s grace, their sins are forgiven, and when cz of their sins they feel unworthy or disqualified, they’re to remember that Gods love (the Father’s) was their while we were still sinners- Christ died for us, and when struggling/confused etc- the Holy Spirit will be their to guide them all the way back to God - our gurantee/sealed to lead us back to heaven.
