2 Thessalonians Chapter Notes

Summary 1-2 Paul, Silas and Timothy send their greetings (writing this a couple months after the first letter) 3-4 Paul is thankful to God for their spiritual growth (exceedingly; beyond expectations) and His transforming power on their characters (abounding in love for each other) and he’s even boasting and giving testimony of their faith even in persecution. (Trials=endurance=character growth- James 1:2-3), 1 Peter 1:7) . 5-6 what thyre going through manifest evidence of God’s righteous judgments (so their suffering is not meaningless, it will reveal God’s righteous judgments cz it will show that they suffered for their faith and condemn those who did the persecuting- fair judgement) - this is proof (documentation) that God will use for His just judgment. 7-10 At His return, they will finally get rest while the persecutors are facing the their judgement. When He returns from heaven with all His angels-in flaming fire (His brightness/glory) those who don’t know God (have a relationship with Him) and those who have a knowledge of Him but chose not to obey (His commands) will also be destroyed - John 14:15- they didn’t love Him, there are those who love Him who obeyed and those who don’t love Him didn’t keep them. The presence of His glory will destroy the wicked (beginning of judgement, later they will be raised to face full judgement - where thyre separated from His presence forever). When He comes to be glorified in His saints (His glory seen in us believers) and we will all admire Him, in awe of Him when we look. 11-12 Paul is praying for them for God’s work i. Them to be complete (finish the good work He’s started in them) that His name:character in us brings Him glory (character cultivated by His grace).
