2 Timothy Questions, Summary & Application

Summary: Verse: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” II Timothy 1:7 NKJV 1-2 Paul starts with his beautiful regular greeting and addresses Timothy again as a beloved son wishing him Grace, mercy, and peace from God 3-5 Paul starts off by thanking God, and is saying that his conscience is free as he serves God faithfully, as his forefathers did. Also saying that he continually prays for him. He greatly wants to see Tim and is mindful that he’s not having any easy time. Paul is filled with joy whenever he remembers his faith, which was in his mother Eunice and grandmother Lois (they trained him up In the ways of the Lord). 6-7 He then encourages him to not hold back his talent/gift, boldly proclaiming the message without fear. For the spirit of fear isn’t from God but the devil. God has given us the spirit of love, power and a sound mind. 8-9 Don’t be ashamed of the gospel and those who represent it (don’t pull a Peter), and be willing to share the suffering for Its sake. Focus on the calling which they were called for even before creation - not qualified by their own strength but the grace of God. 10-12 The purpose of spreading the gospel of grace was given tot hem way back, they were appointed way back, to be an apostle, teacher of the Gentiles. 13-14 hold fast, don’t let go, din’t fall off the path. That good thing (the gift given by the Holy Spirit) keep it, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us (it’s the Holy Spirit cultivates the gift He’s given). 15-16 He then passes on that may in Asia have turned from him, including phygellus and hermogenes. Onesiphorus though, looked after him and was not ashamed of him. 17-18 He continues to show gratefulness to onesiphorus, for ministering to him.
