Ephesians Questions & Summary
Summary:
1-6 Paul a prisoner of the Lord (suffering for Christ) beseech- compelling us to walk worthy of our calling (true Christian living- let our lives match the gospel , with everything showing that we belong to Christ- our life preaching a sermon to everyone who meets us). 2 explains how to walk worthy: walk humbly, gentleness- tender and like soft, and suffering long with people- like they’re being inconvenient to you, or hurting me, but in to suffer long, bearing- being patient wit others, striving to keep unity in the chains of peace (like although keeping peace is hard- like try your best to keep it) live peacefully with all and be one, be united with one another cuz we’re all members of the body of Christ. 7-10 to all of us grace was given according to the measure Christ’s gift (Him for dying for us- big grace) He humbled Himself to the lowest parts (Him accepting to be dressed in human form- God Himself- how humble! So He can fulfill all things. 11-16 Jesus gave the church (His body) different roles to work as a unified to benefit the whole body. These gifts are to nurture us and build us from baby Christians till we grow to a new man , measuring up to the stature of Christ- like us going from glory to glory, and finally reflecting His image fully. That we should no longer be children, no longer baby Christians drinking milk- baby Christians can be tossed about with different beliefs being presented to them, but a grown spiritual individual won’t be tossed about with every wind of doctoring, cz they’re grounded in the truth, they’re grown now. 15-16 growing into His image and every individual doing their part to contribute to the growth of the whole body. It keeps saying in love- love is what keeps grounded- cz God is love, He keeps us grounded. 17-24 we shouldn’t live like gentilles (those outside of the faith- worldly people) having darkened understanding(blinded understanding- blinded by the god of this world and not willing that Christ open their eyes) and giving themselves to all evil- works of the flesh. Their behaviour is not what you’ve been taught, you were taught the truth in Jesus, which you are to follow, not be like them. Learn from Christ who has the truth and put away our old self (old behaviours) and have a mindset change, new person who reflects the character of God, not Satan.
25-32 Put away lying- only speak truth (what glorifies God) why? For we are members of one another, if we’re lying with one another, it’s only hurting us, and the head (Jesus)- if you aren’t about to speak truth- then don’t speak at all. It’s okay to be angry- coz it’s a natural human emotion- but don’t act on the anger, if someone is pressing my buttons- the human emotion will probably be anger, but don’t react. When you’re angry (which u shouldn’t be cz love is not provoked but if u do cz its carnal nature (and will happen while still in the flesh and our old sinful nature still alive) to get angry- like a transformed Christian will not get angry when buttons are pressed cz old u is dead- like Christ never got angry- except righteous anger, so when we become like Him, love is not provoked, the things that used to provoke us no longer do. And when angry, don’t go to bed angry, sort it out before u sleep, don’t hold a grudge, it’s only hurting yourself. Don’t give the enemy ground- to nurture anger and hatred and all other sins- don’t let the spirit of anger take hold, don’t give it place. Let him who stole, steal no longer- it doesn’t say punish him, it’s telling him to go and sin no more like Jesus told the woman. Instead of stealing, go work for it, and with that money, help others (so they don’t fall into the same sin of stealing). So you’re transforming into the total opposite person and bless others. Let no corrupt words come out of my mouth- in this context when someone makes me angry, although I have the right I be harsh with them(carnally- coz no I have no right to speak back as a child of Christ, but carnally yea it makes sense to say sum back), Christ is telling me to impart grace instead- with loving speech, and this grace imparted will most likely work repentance and open their eyes to see what they did wrong, can’t put out fire with fire, if someone is yelling don’t yell back. If it’s not gonna uplift (benefit) them but put em down, don’t say it, don’t even bother. I’m not justified in speaking back, I have no right as a child of Christ- if I do it, im now responsible, I’m wrong. 30 If you do (God wants us to love one another- love Him and love others) if we love Him we keep His commands. (When that guy asks what must I do, and he asks what’s written and he summarises the the law into to 2- love God and love others) so if we respond like this- we’re violating the law, we’re hurting God, we’re grieving Him- deep kinda hurt. Put away all this. Do the opposite- demonstrate love: be kind to one another, gentle etc (fruit of the Spirit) do the opposite of what u was doing when in the world- if gossiper-speak lovingly etc, so out that away and do the opposite of it. Even as God in Christ forgave you- the same way God treats me, I’m to treat others.
Beautiful chapter!🥰
