Ephesians Questions & Summary

Summary: 1-4 this chapter goes on to expand on what Christian living looks like- how a saved person behaves/walks- the role of the parents and children. Children to honour their parents (respect them- quoting the 5th commandment). Then 4 tells parents not to provoke their children (like don’t abuse ur authority). Instead bring them in the training- the way of the Lord, raise godly children by example. 5-8 workers- do your job as if ur doing for God (cuz u are) properly not slack and respecting the authority ur under. Not only doing the right thing while being watched, but even when they aren’t around- honestly- this will glorify God (them seeing this will see how different you are and God will be glorified) 9. Is reminding employers to treat those under them fairly, not misuse their power, remembering that them too have a Master as well (God) and that Master doesn’t have favourites. 10-13 now Paul encourages us, to be in the Lord (allow God to strengthen you, rely on Him for strength and might). 10-20 - put on the whole (not some) armour of God (some will give gap for the enemy to reach u) that we may be able to stand (not fall-sin) when the enemy throws darts- deceit, it’ll bounce off the armour. We don’t wrestle against flesh (abantu) it’s beyond what we can see- like if someone insults me- it’s not just black n white like that, there’s a power behind it- don’t get mad at them, or fight against them but that spirit that’s causing it. Put on the full armour so that you may be able to withstand (stand against/unharmed) when opps come at you. In the evil day: the time ur being tested or tempted. Stand therefore girded yourself with truth- the truth holds everything together- without it’s all falling apart, no matter how strong it is. It needs to cover from front to back. Breastplate of righteousness: guarding your heart- above all else guard your heart, protect your heart with Christ our righteousness. Stand on the truth of the gospel of peace for self and others- peace I give to you..z you carry a different type of peace with them- beautiful are the feet of him who brings good news (gospel) - Isaiah 52:7. Above all, the shield of faith (hebrews 11:1)- whatever darts the enemy throws at me, cuz I have faith (not in self but God) whatever darts he throws won’t phase me. Vs 17 helmet of salvation (the assurance of our salvation) and the sword of the Spirit which is the word God - thy word have I hidden in my heart that I may not sin against you- we use His word to fight against temptation: it is written. Also casting down anything the enemy says that doesn’t align with the word of God. 18 mt 26:41 watch and pray lest you fall into temptation- praying always (pray without ceasing) in the Spirit- praying under inspiration- according to God’s will. Prayer: spiritual hotline- form of communication directly to God, staying connected and His word is His response. And supplication: sincere request, and like begging. Being watchful- watch and pray. 19-21 Paul asks them to pray for him too- that God will give him what to say, and the boldness to say it- to share the mystery (that salvation is now for all) he needs boldness and right words to say because everyone else is against that message (they believe only Jews have salvation- through their works - keep their tradition). Bcz of this msg, he’s an ambassador (representing Christ) in chains- while being persecuted, that in persecution, he may be able to speak boldly still. Cz he understands that the boldness doesn’t come from him but God. 21-24 he sends tychicus to them to keep them updated about what’s goin on and to comfort them. He then blesses them with peace, and love with faith, from God.and grace on them. On us too, Amen 😊
