Galatians Questions & Summary

Summary: 1-5 Paul’s final appeal to the Galatians. (This is a practical way of living in the spirit). He encourages them to restore a fallen brother gently, but also being careful they aren’t tempted. Bear one another’s burden - help each other and by doing this you are keeping the law (love your neighbour as yourself- summarising the last 6 commandments). Walk humbly- humility. Don’t think yourself as above others or more righteous than others. Instead, focus on yourself, examine yourself (instead of looking at other’s flaws). Rejoicing in another person although may be good doesn’t really help you, cz each one shall bear his own load (carry their own cross), don’t rejoice from comparing yourself to others but examine yourself and then rejoice. 6-10 Those being taught the word should share all good things with the one who is teaching (support in all aspects-finance, encouraging, emotional etc). God is not mocked- your choices are your seeds, the harvest is the result of that (what decision you made). Whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. “It is the same in our lives. A person may do the things that please his own human nature. The harvest from their human nature will be punishment and death. Or a person may do the things that please God's Spirit. The harvest from God's Spirit will be life with God for ever.” Galatians 6:8 EASY. Don’t get tired in doing good (this is an encouragement to them) you will reap good results. Just like when you plant something, the fruits don’t grow the next day, it takes time and work, and consistency- if you continue, the blessing of the fruit will be so nice/so rewarding. Very opportunities presented to us to help others, do it, especially those brothers and sisters in Christ (household of faith). 11-15 he starts off by highlighting the importance what he’s writing (bug letters with his hand). Those who are compelling them to be circumscribed are doing it to look good, cz circumcision shows that you’re saved in their tradition, they want to do it to appear saved, they don’t want the msg of the cross cz it requires suffering/self denial/sacrifice. They don’t want this. (But God looks on the heart, He is not impressed by outward performance). There’s nothing worth boasting about other than the cross (which was the work of God for you- don’t boast in self but Christ’s doing). The more you get closer to Him, the less you care or look at yourself. By whom the world has been crucified to me and I to the world- as we walk with Jesus, the things of the world lose value- we die to it and it to us. Circumcision or no circumcision, does not matter, but you being transformed into a new creation- reflecting Christ’s character. 16-18 this principle of salvation through faith in Christ Jesus, those who walk by this, peace and mercy be upon them and the Israel of God (God’s people). From now on don’t trouble me by questioning my sincerity for Christ- cz I bear the marks, he has marks from defending what he believes in, I’m persecuted cz what I’m sharing isn’t conformed to the msg false teachers teach. They can point to their circumcision as proof of their salvation/discipleship, but he can point to his scars- all he’s suffered for the msg of the cross. Suffering shows sincerity- cz who’s willing to suffer for something they don’t believe in, like someone will be all in till something threatens them. Then he ends the letter by blessing them- may the grace (not law, not works) of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your Spirit, Amen (let it be so).
