Philippians Chapter Notes

Summary: 1-2 Paul is writing the letter from prison to the church of philipi, greeting them and blesses them. (It’s amazing how he’s writing from prison yet is so unphased). Greets them with Tim, humbling himself- bondservants. Writing to all the saints in Philippi. 3-11 Paul gives thanks for them and prays for them. And his confidence isn’t in them but the faithfulness of God, who has started the work in them, to finish what He has started. Hebrews 12:2- the author and finisher of our faith😊 he shows his love for them, like even though he’s in prison, he still has em in his heart, praying for them to grow spiritually and stay faithful till the end, and to walk in righteousness BY Christ. 12-14 although they thought him being in prison is bad thing, it turned out for the good, many witnessed God’s power, what looked like defeat turned out to be a way of witnessing- all things work together for the good of those that love God- in it all He is in control. And with his suffering, many became bold for Christ as fruit. 15-18 there are some who preach the gospel with good motives and others bad selfish motives, in the end, Christ is preached so he rejoices. 19-20 he has faith that in the end through their prayer, and God’s providence, they’ll be deliverance, but his concern isn’t being freed but Christ glorified so whether he dies or lives, he wants God glorified. But on a personal note, for him, to live is Christ (he’s gonna live for him) and to die is to gain (work is over and his next thought is he wakes up to the face of Jesus)😊. We can have different perspectives: some to live is climbing the corporate ladder, family, health, success but for followers of God, to live is Christ (honouring and serving Him with our lives- Him being the drive, meaning and purpose). 22-24 his desire is to unite with God but for the benefit of them it’s better he stays and continues his work in Christ. 25-26 for their spiritual growth he wants to stay and rejoices in their growth. 27-28 whether I’m there or away, make sure you’re living worthy of your calling, let your conduct measure up to the gospel, stand strong in the Spirit, united. To not be scared of opposition, their boldness is evidence that the opposition is lost but thyre saved. 29-30 as followers of Christ, it’s a gift to believe but the suffering is also an honour (to suffer the same way) - He says rejoice when persecuted. Suffering is apart of following in His footsteps. 30 going through n the same thing he did (persecution). It has been granted- it’s an honour to suffer for Him.
