Ephesians Questions & Summary
Summary:
1-2 Copy God as His children and love others as He loved us- same way He sacrificed Himself for us, we too can go out of our way to help others even if it inconveniences others. 3-7 Put away all ungodliness and walk in love, it lists example behaviours of ungodliness saying those who partake will not inherit God’s kingdom. Don’t let anyone deceive us with words of putting to sleep comforting us in our sins, because these very things are what brings upon the wrath of God. 8-14 walking in light: before Christ, we were walking in darkness (practicing ungodliness) but we are light in the Lord (by God’s grace we’re walking in truth)- walking in the fruit of the Spirit (being led by Him). Finding out what is acceptable to Him- if we search diligently we’ll find Him, seek and you will find, if u put your heart in it, you will find, He draws nearer when we draw we draw near. Finding - we gotta actually put in the effort and look so we can find- what’s pleasing to Him and do so. Don’t have anything to do with any ungodliness, but expose- actually address it- expose it with truth, cz truth brings light hidden things of darkness. Awake you who sleep (sleeping- dead- in darkness- put to sleep- staying stagnant in sin) snap out of the sleep- see that you need God and He will show you light/truth- and you will be revived from sleep. 15-21
See that you walk cautiously, not as fool but a wise person, redeeming the time cz the days are evil-can’t get back time, so live wisely- redeeming - but back the time I wasted living in sin- and live the rest wasting no time and using for God’s glory. Psalms 90:12 “so teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom”- in this time seek the will of God cz when walking in the will of God (we aren’t wasting time). 28 links with 15, don’t be drunk with wine (cz when intoxicated u aren’t cautious) and it affects your behaviour (doing your flesh wants- it affects all of u- physically and mentally) but if we walk in the Spirit we’ll be cautious, sober minded- so basically doing the opposite- they both affect our mind- behaviour- so pick to be filled with one of them, the Spirit. 19-21 once you choose to be filled with the Spirit, it will result to living together in love and harmony- the character change positively affects our relationships. Singing with each other with psalms hymns - making melodies in our hearts- words of praise- a happy heart- kucurangira imana mumutima. 22-24 wives submit to your husband as to the Lord- the same way you submit to God, copy Jesus the same He submitted to the Father- like they were equal, and the Father was not boasting that He’s more greater than son-Thyre one. 25-31 it’s the husband’s responsibility to love his wife unconditionally… (1 cor 13:6) and be willing to sacrifice for her- any sacrifice. Selfless love- like Christ. Benefiting from the sacrifice like Christ did - seeing the glory that was to come, and the husband seeing the peace and harmony as result, he endures all. 26-27 He loved and did that He did to sanctify her. 28-30
Husband ought to love their wives as their own bodies- cz thyre one. Same love he has for himself- ought to be the same, cz how can you hate yourself. God in middle uniting the relationship is the only way for a successful marriage- heaven on earth. “For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church.” Same way he looks after himself, he’s gotta look after her, the flesh: always priority, naturally wanna feed it, give it wants/needs. Like it takes everything in you to deprive your flesh cz it’s natural instinct to give it what it wants, so it should be the same way with the wife. 31: for this reason (the oneness) for this purpose, the husband leaves his parents and him and his wife become one. 32-33 marriage here on earth reflects Christ’ relationship with the church, husband symbolising Christ and the woman symbolising the church, Jesus sacrifices cz he loved us, and because of his love, the natural response of the church is to submit to Him. Jesus the groom and the church the bride.
It’s a mystery, beautiful as God reveals the truths to us.
Side-note: God uniting u, makes you one so yall don’t have separate opinions but when God is removed then now you have yall own separate opinions- and conflict arises.
Purpose of marriage: God is a relational God, He said it’s not good for man to be alone (he’s never been alone- the God-head) so He wants to reveal His love to us through our relationship, and develop our love- character through the relationships.
