Galatians Questions & Summary

Summary 1-10. Paul after 14 years went up to Jerusalem with Barnabas (by revelation- sent by God) sharing with them the gospel which he shared with the gentiles (privately) (kinda like proof reading- as the ones who walked with Jesus n were taught that gospel by Him). The gospel that he shared (grace of Jesus) did not require the keeping of the laws in order to be saved - like circumcision, even Titus who was with him was not compelled to be circumcised. Some came in preaching this (false teachers) but Paul did not yield to this. He wasn’t gonna be moved by anyone who had to say anything different from what God had taught him (even the ones with status-who were with Jesus or prominent leaders) cz he knew God showed no favouritism and the same way He used Peter for the Jews, He used him for the gentiles. When James, Peter and John had seen the grace given to Paul(same grace they received) , they invited him and Barnabas to work with them. And they were sent to the gentiles while they went to the Jews. They only added on their desire for him and barna to be helping the poor, which he was already eager to do. 11- 14 There came a time when Peter came to Antioch, where Paul publicly corrected/rebuked him cz he was to be blamed (for being a hypocrite and influencing the others to do likewise) he was eating with the gentiles before James’ men came (showing he accepted them) but seeing James’ men come, he switched up (fear of judgement-hanging out with the uncircumcised). Even Barnabas was carried away with their hypocrisy. He rebuked them for not being straightforward about the gospel (his behaviour suggested that the circumcised were superior) which contradicted the gospel (that were all equally sinners, who all need grace- so none is above the other, we’re all saved by Christ). If u being a Jew, live in the manner of a gentile- no longer keeping Jewish laws, why do u compel gentiles to live as a Jew- keeping those Jewish customs. 15-19 Although being Jews by nature- having that privilege of having the old covenant- law keeping citizens, unlike the gentiles- this privilege is not what saves em. Thyre all saved by the sacrifice of Jesus. A person is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ. 17 does us not having to keep all laws mean Jesus is giving us the ticket to sin - minister of sin? No. 18 cz if I try to now do the works of the law (which has been fulfilled) to get salvation I now make myself a transgressor cz I can’t keep the law. 19 I through the law died to the law that I might live to God- the law shows me my guilt/sin and points me to the saviour who cleanses/clears my guilt. 20 “ I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” 21: “I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain.” Memory gem: Galatians 2:20 NKJV “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”
